Workshop Safety Guidelines

This is a hands-on cooking workshop involving knives, burners, hot pans, boiling liquids, and open flames. Please read and follow these basic safety guidelines throughout the workshop.

  • Listen to the instructors. Follow all safety instructions and ask before using any unfamiliar equipment.

  • Handle knives carefully. Keep knives on your cutting board when working, carry them with the blade pointed down, and never try to catch a falling knife.

  • Be careful with heat. Assume pans, handles, burners, and cookware are hot unless you know otherwise. Use oven mitts when needed.

  • Watch for steam and hot liquids. Open pots carefully and keep your face and hands away from rising steam.

  • Be cautious around flames and hot oil. Keep towels and other flammable items away from burners. Never add water to hot oil.

  • Keep your workspace clear. Clean spills promptly, keep bags and personal items out of walkways, and walk—never run—in the kitchen.

  • Wear appropriate clothing. Closed-toe, non-slip shoes are required. Tie back long hair and avoid loose sleeves or dangling jewelry.

  • Stay focused. Please do not participate if you are impaired by alcohol, drugs, or anything that affects your coordination or judgment.

  • Speak up immediately. If you are injured, see a hazard, or are unsure about something, stop and tell an instructor.

By participating, you agree to follow these guidelines and the instructions of the workshop team. Our goal is simple: cook, learn, have fun, and keep everyone safe.
